Takoma Regional Hospital Volunteer Programs

The Volunteers of Takoma Adventist Hospital were organized in 1977. Since that time, hundreds of men, women, and students have given their time and energy to the hospital. On May 1, 2007, the hospital became Takoma Regional Hospital, and as it grows, it will need more volunteers than ever.

Some of the continuing projects sponsored by the volunteers are:

  • Patient and Guest Ambassador Program: Volunteers greet and visit patients admitted to Takoma Regional Hospital to welcome them and facilitate assistance for any questions or needs. Volunteers also escort patients and visitors to their destinations throughout the hospital
  • Operation of the Forget-Me-Not-Shoppe, the hospital gift shop. Volunteers serve as buyers, clerks, decorators, bookkeepers and financial advisors to make this a tremendously successful gift shop
  • Pacifiers for newborns
  • Knit baby caps for newborns
  • Pillows for babies up to 2 years who are patients
  • Catheter bags for rehab patients
  • Coffee station in the same-day surgery waiting room
  • Vials of Life in conjunction with the Red Cross and the EMS
  • 55 Alive AARP safe driving course offered twice a year
  • Heart-healthy lunches from September through May
  • Additionally, the Volunteers participate in fund raisers for the hospital:

  • Easter Bake Sale, traditionally the Thursday before Easter
  • Christmas Bazaar, traditionally the Thursday before Thanksgiving
  • Scrubs and Shoe Sale
  • Book Fair
  • Love Lights Campaign, the first few weeks of December
  • Also, men and women participate in many areas of the hospital on a weekly basis. Presently there are 55 adult Volunteers and 20 Junior Volunteers who have donated 10,000 hours in 2006.

The mission of the Volunteers is to assist Takoma Regional Hospital in providing quality health care to the community in a caring Christian atmosphere.

    BECOME A VOLUNTEER!

Not only is hospital volunteer work personally rewarding, but research has shown that volunteers live longer, healthier lives.

Our staff and patients need you. We hope you will consider joining the hundreds of people who have volunteered at Takoma Hospital over the years. When you do, you will become an integral part of a hospital that is committed to delivering the highest quality health care in the country. The strength of our hospital is based on its traditions of excellence and caring, not only for our patients, but also for their loved ones. Your warmth and caring will have a great impact on countless sick and lonely patients, some of whom are anxious children. Our professional staff and hospital personnel will come to rely on your dedication, your enthusiasm and your loyalty.

More than 60 people, men, women, and students of all ages and from all walks of life, presently serve as volunteers. They all share a capacity to give and dedication to provide compassionate patient care. Excellent interpersonal skills and a generosity of spirit are qualities of Takoma volunteers.

Simply put, our staff and patients need your help and will benefit from your willingness to give. You will benefit from your willingness to learn. As a volunteer, you will take an extraordinary journey filled with memorable human contact, a sense of participation, and the joy of giving. We will be grateful if you choose to make the journey with us.
