Takoma Hospital’s LIFE Magazine, Website Win National Awards
GREENEVILLE, TN – Takoma Adventist Hospital has won two top awards at the 22nd annual Healthcare Advertising Awards.

   LIFE Magazine, the hospital’s community health magazine, received the highest honor in its category, while Takoma’s website ( received the bronze award in the website/home page design category.

   Both awards were judged on creativity, execution and impact of message.

   LIFE is published quarterly, and distributed through the “Greeneville Sun.”

   The full-color magazine was created by Lynette Patterson, director of marketing and community relations. Tina Chudina, media relations coordinator, writes the articles for the magazine, while Drew Deakins, regional creative coordinator for the four-hospital Adventist Health System’s Appalachian Region, designs it.

   “We were especially pleased that LIFE won this prestigious award,” Patterson said. “Unlike many hospital newsletters that are filled with generic information, our newsletter is all local. Tina does a fabulous job writing insightful articles relevant to our area, while Drew is the creative genius who puts it all together.”

   Patterson also was pleased that the hospital’s website was recognized, especially because it is still evolving.

   “We feel it offers timely health information and we look forward to continuously expanding its content,” she said.

   A popular feature of the website is “Discovery Hospital,” a virtual database of healthcare information featuring more than 5,000 pages of disease and condition information, interactive health tools, and several specialty centers such as Healthy Living, Parenting and Women’s Health. A section called “The New You” focuses on life-changing resolutions such as eating healthier, smoking cessation, and fitness.

   Discovery Hospital also features a Health Tools section that includes an anatomy explorer, a body mass index calculator, risk assessment questionnaires, and a health diary. In addition, the Symptom Manager is a tool that helps determine if symptoms warrant a visit to the emergency department. The Drug Reference section allows website visitors to check potentially harmful prescription drug interactions.

   “Visitors to the website have grown dramatically since its inception,” Patterson noted. “We’re glad residents are accessing it and bettering their health.”

   Last year, LIFE was recognized for creative excellence at the Service Industry Advertising Awards, and was a gold finalist in the international MarCom Creative Awards.
