GREENEVILLE, TN – Free parenting classes will be offered every Saturday in August at Takoma Adventist Hospital.
The classes -- which will be held Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27 – will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the hospital’s conference room near the Forget-Me-Not Gift Shoppe.
“Children aren’t born knowing how to act,” Karen Lewis, an obstetrics nurse who is leading the classes, said. “We have to teach them.”
The classes will offer tips and tools to help parents – new and old – build healthy relationships with their children.
“We’ll talk about the importance of self-esteem and praise, how to listen to children, and how to discipline with a whisper,” Lewis said. “We’ll also talk about child development, so parents know what their child is capable of and at what age.”
Other topics will include:
· Time management for parents and children;
· Letting your child know you love them when they are less than perfect;
· Problem solving and decision making;
· And, setting limits and time-outs.
“The father plays an important part in a child’s life, so please bring dad along,” Lewis noted.
