diabetic cooking workshop is planned for Monday, March 8, at the YMCA.
Hosted by Takoma Regional Hospital, the workshop will feature important health information provided by Louisa Hammer, Takoma’s certified diabetic educator, and diabetic-friendly food prepared by Joanie Scott, one of the hospital’s registered dietitians.
They will share recipes for a soup, salad and dressing, while preparing the meal for participants to sample.
“While we are cooking, we will talk about carbohydrate counting, fat reduction, reading food labels and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into recipes for better health and improved blood glucose control,” Scott said. “We’ll also discuss the recommended normal blood glucose range, hemoglobin A1c, and complications of uncontrolled blood glucose.”
Hammer will give away special “goodie bags” to attendees.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 10 a.m. For more information, please contact Tina Chudina, media relations coordinator at Takoma Regional, at 798-8110.
