A Takoma Regional Hospital registered nurse has earned national certification as a diabetes educator.
Louisa Hammer, who has worked at Takoma for nearly three years, was awarded the certification last month by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators.
“Takoma’s desire to be on the cutting edge of diabetic care has led to significant changes that will have a tremendously positive impact on the well-being of our patients, such as shortening their length of stay, reducing their risk of infection, and helping them heal faster,” Hammer said.
Obtaining the certification is another example of how Takoma is providing the best care possible for diabetics in this community, she said.
“There are so many people in our area struggling to control their diabetes,” Hammer said. “Our hospital has made a commitment to providing superior health care, and my certification in diabetes education is just a reflection of that commitment.”
Hammer is a graduate of East Tennessee State University’s School of Nursing.
