GREENEVILLE, TENN., (July 24, 2008) – Takoma Regional Hospital and UnitedHealthcare have expanded their longstanding relationship to provide all UnitedHealthcare commercial health plan customers access to Takoma Regional’s inpatient and outpatient services.
“Takoma Regional Hospital is an important link in eastern Tennessee’s healthcare network, and we are very pleased to expand our relationship with the hospital,” said Garland Scott, CEO for UnitedHealthcare of Tennessee. “We believe that by expanding our longstanding relationship with Takoma Regional Hospital, our customers who live in eastern Tennessee will have greater peace of mind knowing they have a broader selection of health care facilities from which to access quality care.”
Carlyle Walton, president and CEO of Takoma Regional, said the hospital had patients in mind as leaders from the hospital and Highlands Wellmont Health Network worked diligently to expand the relationship with UnitedHealthcare. Highlands Wellmont is a regional partnership of Wellmont Health System and Highlands Physicians Inc.
“We’re excited about what this will mean for those who are served by UnitedHealthcare and may want broader access to services at Takoma Regional,” Walton said. “Our mission is to serve the entire community, and we believe our expanded agreement with UnitedHealthcare will make it easier for many to benefit from the excellent care our physicians and clinicians provide.”
Takoma Regional joined Wellmont last year in a partnership between Wellmont and Florida-based Adventist Health System. The 100-bed, acute-care facility features a wide array of surgical specialties as well as an advanced diagnostic and imaging center.
UnitedHealthcare serves more than 1.1 million Tennesseans statewide.
