Boys & Girls Club Fund-Raiser Announced
A new fund-raiser to support the Boys & Girls Club of Greeneville & Greene County’s after-school “Power Hour” tutoring program has been announced.
Takoma Regional Hospital has committed to donate $1 for every new “like” on their Facebook page, up to $500, toward the local Boys & Girls Club. The contest starts Monday, Aug. 20, and runs through Friday, Sept. 7. In order to help, participants need to go to the hospital’s Facebook site at www.facebook.com/TakomaRegionalHospital and “like” the site.
“We are excited to support this important after-school resource,” Lyndon Gallimore, the hospital’s executive for business development, said. “Takoma is proud of the good work that the Boys and Girls Club do every day and we recognize its significance to this community.”
The after-school tutoring program runs from Monday-Friday from 2:45-6:30 p.m., according to Cathy Osborne, program director.
“We also offer something called ‘Power Hour’ Monday through Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.,” she said. “We help with specific homework during this time and provide snacks. Our children earn Power Hour points when they participate in the after-school program, which can be exchanged for toys, school supplies and even hygiene items.”
The money raised during this contest will be used to buy more incentives and school supplies for the program, Osborne said.
About 15-20 children participate in the after-school tutoring program each day, she said.
The Boys & Girls Club is located at 740 W. Church St., next to the Greene County Health Department. For more information on the club, please contact Osborne or Kaley Crum at 787-9334.
