The patients in the Center for Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation at Takoma work hard. The professional staff keeps patients focused on their recovery goals and supports them every step of the way.

Because each person is unique, the dedicated team of professionals in the Center individualizes every patient's care, taking into consideration that everyone progresses at a different pace.

The Center for Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation at Takoma is dedicated to helping patients get past the hurdles and back to their lives returning to work, family, active retirement or independent living.

The Center for Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation implements a trans-disciplinary approach, offering physical, occupational and speech therapies, social workers and 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care under the direction of a full-time medical director who is a physician on staff at Takoma Regional Hospital.

Other services available through the physicians and health care professionals at the Center for Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation includes counseling and prosthesis training.

The Center for Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation's goal is to help patients get back to life, family and friends as quickly as possible. Working with each patient and their family, the team of healthcare professionals, working under the direction of the medical director, designs a highly individualized treatment plan that focuses on potential, not on limitations.

Rehabilitation may greatly benefit patients who experience difficulties in the following areas:

Limitation in Self-Care

Impaired mobility, balance and coordination

Limitations in strength and range of motion

Cognitive and perceptual deficits

Speech and communication problems

Swallowing disorders

These functional difficulties may be the result of stroke, orthopedic conditions (hip fractures, arthritis, amputations, joint replacements), major multiple trauma, neurological disorders (multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, muscular dystrophy), spinal cord injury or brain injury.

To Make A Referral Takoma Regional Hospital invites you to contact the Program Director of the Center for Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation to discuss the services, mission and philosophy, or arrange a tour of the unit. Physicians, patients and their families, discharge planners and allied health professionals may initiate a referral.

If you believe a patient may benefit from these services, please contact us. A member of the staff will perform a screening at no charge.

If it is determined that the patient is not a candidate for inpatient rehabilitation, alternate resources will be discussed.
