Celebrity Golfer Joining Takoma Golf Classic
Trick shot demonstrations from celebrity golfer Mike Sullivan will be a highlight of this year’s Takoma Golf Classic, organizers have announced.

Sullivan, a former Greeneville resident who is currently on the PGA Champions Tour, will show off his skill, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Oct. 4 tournament at the Andrew Johnson Golf Club, according to Lindy Riley, director of the Takoma Foundation.

“Mike also will be available to pose for photographs and to autograph golf balls,” Riley said.

If the weather permits, Sullivan will hit tee shots for tournament teams from the number 10 hole, she said.

Sullivan turned professional in 1975 and joined the PGA Tour in 2005. Earlier this year, he recorded his first Top 10 finish at the Blue Angels Classic, posting a 7-under-par 63 at The Moors.

Meanwhile, the Takoma Golf Classic tournament is a four-person, select shot in both handicap and scratch divisions.  The player entry fee of $125 includes green fee, cart, free practice round, free range balls, a boxed lunch, refreshments on the course, a framed team photo with digital clock and thermometer, a golf hat, and a gourmet dinner with entertainment following the tournament.

Registration forms may be obtained by calling 798-8136, and are available online at www.takoma.org/foundation.

Sponsor and player donations for this tournament will help pay for renovations to the former office building of Drs. Robert Bridges and Frederick Myers, which will be used as a new Emergency Medical Services substation.

Last year’s event drew a full field, netting more than $32,000 for the hospital’s Emergency Department project.
