Takoma Golf Classic offers day on links in support of worthwhile cause

GREENEVILLE – The Takoma Regional Hospital Foundation is accepting entries for its annual golf tournament, which includes a day of golf on a beautiful championship course, numerous perks and – most importantly – the opportunity to support a worthwhile, special project at Takoma Regional Hospital.

The 15th annual Takoma Golf Classic will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Andrew Johnson Golf Club, giving golfers an autumn day on the links and a cause to play for. The contributions from players and sponsors will help fund the Partners in Progress campaign to provide sleeper-recliners in each patient room at Takoma Regional.

“This is one of our favorite events each year because there’s a fun time to be had by all, and the participants and sponsors do so much to advance health care in our community,” said Lindy Riley, executive director of the Takoma Hospital Foundation. “The Partners in Progress campaign is fully committed to putting a hospital-quality sleeper-recliner in every patient room.

“This project is all about making for the best possible environment for patients and their family members, who frequently want to spend the night with their child or an elderly family member who is at Takoma Regional. This reduces stress on patients who can be comforted by the fact that a family member is always nearby.”

The entry fee of $125 includes much more than a round of golf and cart fee at the scenic Andrew Johnson course. Golfers will also receive a free practice round and free range balls, a hole-in-one contest with a new car donated by Bachman-Bernard Auto Mall as the grand prize, lunch sponsored by Consumer Credit Union, refreshments on the course and homemade banana splits, a copy of the book “How I Play Golf” by Tiger Woods, a team photo, a longest drive contest for men and women and five closest-to-pin prizes, and an awards ceremony and gourmet dinner sponsored by Gateway Ford Lincoln Mercury. Additional dinners are available for non-players at a cost of $30.

There will also be first and second place awards in each competition division.

The application deadline for four-golfer teams is Sept. 26. The day of the tournament, lunch and registration begins at noon and a shotgun start begins at 1 p.m.

Six different sponsorship packages range in scope from $100 to $10,000 so those who want to help have a wide variety of options from which to choose. Donations to the Takoma Golf Classic in support of your not-for-profit community hospital are tax-deductible. Donations from the 2007 golf classic helped renovate and redecorate the Takoma Regional intensive care unit.

C&C Millwright and JJ&R are tournament sponsors. For registration forms and sponsorship information, visit www.takoma.org/foundation. Golfers may also register by calling Riley at (423) 798-8136.
