GREENEVILLE – There were plenty of winners at the 15th annual Takoma Golf Classic, but the biggest winners are the Takoma Regional Hospital patients, who through the generosity of the community will have more comfort and peace of mind than ever.
A full tournament field participated in the event Oct. 7, which was organized by the Takoma Regional Hospital Foundation and held at Andrew Johnson Golf Club. The foundation holds the annual event to help fund the Partners in Progress campaign for a special project at the hospital, and this year’s donations from sponsors and golfers will go toward providing several hospital-quality sleeper-recliners in patient rooms.
“I think everyone involved with the tournament had a great time, and the most gratifying part is how the participants and sponsors went above and beyond to advance health care in our community,” said Lindy Riley, executive director of the Takoma Hospital Foundation. “The Partners in Progress campaign is fully committed to putting a hospital-quality sleeper-recliner in every patient room, and the Takoma Golf Classic will go a long way toward advancing that goal.
“We’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament. We can’t thank the community enough for its generosity.”
Some eye-popping scores were put up by the field, starting with a 15-under-par 55 posted by the C&C Millwright team of Mike Brown, Justin Burns, Charles G’Fellers and James Fender. That foursome won the first flight, and the DTR team (Webster Booze, Randy Rumbley, Neal G’Fellers and Eddie Harmon) was second with a 59.
Other winners included:
Second flight, first place: Brumley Greene (Brumley Greene, Terry Sams, Mike Lee, Johnny Emmett), score of 61
