Philanthropic resources play a vital role in helping hospitals to keep pace with medical and technological advances. With contributed support, Takoma Regional Hospital can continue providing top quality service as well as
cost-effective diagnostic and treatment programs to area residents.
In order to help Takoma Regional Hospital maintain a favorable cost position and keep patient charges at the lowest level possible, the hospital must fund new projects and equipment with donated capital from the community. Studies have shown that for each $1.00 in donated capital, the hospital saves approximately $4.00 in debt service, thus reducing long-term costs to the community.
If you have been to Takoma Regional Hospital lately, you will have seen the new lobby, reception area, and waiting room. The surgical suite and same-day surgery are all on first floor now, and the new Emergency Center opened February 6, 2006. Eleven private exam rooms are now available so that patients can be seen on a more timely basis. Takoma is able to continue to upgrade the facility and keep abreast of technological changes because of the support of business, corporations, and friends of the hospital who have given or pledged to the Partners in Progress campaign. Thank you for your generosity!
At Takoma, 76.3% of our patients are supported by Medicare and TennCare. In most instances, these programs do not cover the cost of providing the services, let alone the charges. This situation is becoming more prevalent in our changing healthcare system; the result is that local hospitals look increasingly to the community for support that will allow them to continue the level of quality care the surrounding area has come to depend on. Last year, Takoma Regional Hospital gave $6.4 million dollars in uncompensated care to the community! While the hospital provides charitable benefits to the community every year, this year we need the community’s help in improving emergency services.
We invite you to become a Partner in Progress and join the 1928 Society (so-named because the hospital was founded in 1928). Our current project is placing sleep-reliners in every patient rooms so that visitors can rest comfortably while staying with loved ones. As always, our goal is to provide quality healthcare to the people we serve. If every household in the area donated $19.28 to the campaign, we could pay for the chairs and add other amenities to increase the ambience of patient rooms and visitng areas. All donors will be acknowledged in the hospital's annual report and will have the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped their neighbors.
No gift is too small. We encourage every member of the community to participate in efforts to make quality healthcare available.
